Doula Profile: Tisa

Tisa is a Labour and Postpartum Doula and proud mother of six.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, and of Jamaican heritage, Tisa and her family relocated to Malton, Ontario in 1997. She spent the rest of her childhood in Malton, her 20s in Brampton, and recently made the move from the west end to the east end.

Her passion for birth work began over 20 years ago with the birth of her eldest son. A moment that, while life-changing, was marred by inadequate care and poor medical decisions. Despite this, Tisa was fortunate to find strong support programs and a mentor who poured into her early on and believed in her potential to thrive in this work.

Tisa said yes to CommUnity Doulas because she saw the opportunity to support others who share her story. Her mission is rooted in providing emotional, physical, and informational care that uplifts and empowers, especially within the Black community. She loves watching her clients not only survive, but truly thrive.

Her favourite part of being a doula is helping families navigate the transition from birth to postpartum, ensuring they’re equipped with the tools, confidence, and care they need.

When she’s not attending a birth or working overnight shifts, you’ll find Tisa recharging through skincare routines, K-dramas, LEGO builds, and creating miniature book nooks—though fitting in self-care is no small feat in her busy household!

As a doula, she’s committed to reminding others that postpartum is not a race. It’s about reclaiming the pieces of ourselves we may have lost—and embracing support every step of the way.
